Hugo is the first main antagonist in the Never Back Down franchise to not get into a single fight.Vega storms off, humiliated, knowing he has been defeated. Case also points out that, because the fight never technically happened, Vega must pay back everyone who paid to see the fight. Case tells him to pay off both him and Brody so they won't have to take it to court, and Vega reluctantly and angrily agrees. Irate, Vega threatens to sue Case for breach of contract, but Case tells Vega that they have the proof of him causing Brody's injury and that he would have to pay far more in court because of that.
In the fight, Case injures Braga's ribs and keeps exacerbating that injury, eventually finishing him off with a kick to the face. Case provokes Braga with a remark about his wife and the two get into a skirmish outside the ring. Case is still wondering how he can stop both Vega and Braga, but he realizes that he can simply provoke Braga to fighting him outside the ring before the match even starts, thus ruining Vega's plans. On the night of the fight, Myca, who has become Case's girlfriend, tells Vega she quits. Case knows that he has to do the fight, but must find a way to stop both Braga, who is hell bent on destroying Case, and Vega, who is set to make millions off the fight. However, Case's suspicions about Brody's "training accident" are confirmed as he breaks into Boris's locker and discovering a text message that proves Vega paid Boris to take Brody out of commission so he could have Case fight instead. Case accepts and begins to train with long kicks to fight the much taller and top heavy Braga. With Brody unable to fight, Vega offers Case a million dollars to fight Braga, only half of what Brody would have made. Around this time, viral footage of Case beating up the racist policemen from two years prior has grabbed the attention of many, thus causing Vega to realize that the washed-up Brody will not make as much money for him as the newly famous Case.ĭuring training, a Sambo wrestler named Boris injures Brody's knee.
Hugo's marketing director, Myca Cruz, also starts dating Case.Ĭase and Brody get into a fight, but the two mend their friendship and decide to keep training for the fight with Braga, however Brody is concerned about the effects a fight with someone like Braga could have on him, and he begins to worry about being around for his family.
Vega hears about ths and immediately begins to consider having Case fight Caesar instead. At Brody's gym in Thailand, Case lays waste to a younger fighter who disrespected him. Case reluctantly agrees and goes to Thailand to help Brody. Brody asks Case to help him train for the fight, knowing he cannot beat the far superior and unhinged Braga without his friend's help. Hugo convinces Brody into fighting his star fighter, the 7-foot beast Caesar Braga for the PFC Championship in Bangkok. Hugo first appears as the fighting promoter for PFC Combat, a promotion that has signed on Brody James, Case's old friend and fellow MMA fighter.
